About
The Busan Modern History Museum was originally a building from the Japanese colonial period, the Oriental Development Company, which was later converted into the American Cultural Center. It was later reborn as a history museum connected to the former Bank of Korea Busan headquarters building, a first-generation Korean building.
During the port opening and Japanese colonial period, Busan transformed into a modern city, but it was also the site of the greatest damage from foreign invasion as Japanese exploitation organizations were concentrated there. After liberation, it became the temporary capital of the Republic of Korea through the Korean War, served as a base for industrial revival after the 1960s, and became a major turning point in the democratization movement in the Republic of Korea through the Busan-Masan Uprising during the democratization period. The Busan Modern History Museum was established in 2023 to widely publicize the identity of Busan today, which originated from this turbulent history.
The Busan Modern History Museum is a new museum where you can see, feel, and enjoy Busan's modern history in a living historical place, including a children's cultural complex where children and parents can enjoy together, a new Bank of Korea vault that will be introduced as an exhibition and performance space, and an annex where you can read various regional and modern history materials and books.
