About
About
These are seven Gaya tombs located around the hills that stretch out from Mt. Mugisan in Songhak-ri, Goseong-eup, Goseong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do. Tomb No. 1 is located at the highest point, and the remaining six tombs are located gradually lower.
The Giwon-ri tombs are located 300m to the north of this area, and the Songhak-dong shell mound is located 300-400m to the east, indicating the location of the Sogaya state during the Three Kingdoms period. These seven tombs are closely related to the Mt. Mugisan tomb, the first tomb, and can be said to have served as subordinate tombs that protected Tomb No. 1. Therefore, considering the good location and size of the tomb, Tomb No. 1 is presumed to be the head of this region, and it is estimated that it was built no more than 50 years before or after AD 400.
The Songhak-dong tomb is a historically important Gaya cultural relic representing the later culture that followed the early Iron Age of the Dongoe-dong shell mound. It was designated as Historic Site No. 119 on January 21, 1963, and was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in September 2023.
