About

About
A traditional market in Bupyeong-dong, Jung-gu, Busan. It was designated as the first public market in the country in 1910. After the Korean War, refugees began selling canned goods from US military bases, such as canned food, here, and it is said that the name 'Kkangtong Market' came about. It is said that there were also many unique items, so it was also nicknamed 'Dokkaebi Market'. In the 1970s and 1980s, many Japanese products such as Walkmans were sold, and many distributors came from all over the country to distribute these items. Since it is a market directly connected to the adjacent Gukje Market, the general public often associates the two together. The daily floating population is about 20,000, making it the largest 'single market' in the country. It is famous for its night market, which has been a huge success since its introduction in 2013. Similar night market marketing began at Bupyeong Kkangtong Night Market all over the country. It was registered as the first night market in the country. The night market, which operates from 7:30 PM to midnight, has dozens of food stalls on both sides and in the middle of a 110m-long narrow street, selling a variety of snacks and other food. What’s unique is that there are many foreign foods, and there are quite a few stores where foreigners sell them directly. There are a variety of foods, including Turkish kebabs, Indonesian mi goreng, Vietnamese cha jo (spring rolls), and Japanese and Filipino dishes. There are a lot of people and the street is narrow, so it’s a spectacle to see everyone walking in a single line.
