About
About
A hill and tourist attraction located at 56 Dalseong-ro, Jung-gu, Daegu (194 Dongsan-dong). This is where missionaries stayed. It is located next to Keimyung University Daegu Dongsan Hospital. It is a major tourist attraction in Daegu and was selected as one of the 100 scenic views in every corner of Korea. It is a historic site where you can see the modern and contemporary history of Daegu and the history of Protestantism and Catholicism. There are missionary houses, the March 1st Movement Memorial Stairs, apple trees, and Daegu First Church on Cheongna Hill. It is a densely populated area of various modern buildings. The origin of the name Cheongna is that the walls of the missionary houses on the hill were covered with blue ivy, so it was called Cheongna Hill, meaning 'blue ivy', using the characters for blue and ivy. In 1898, during the Enlightenment Period, missionaries named Adams and Johnson purchased the land of the current Dongsan Hospital and Cheongna Hill, which was a wasteland, cheaply and built a hospital and a school, and the current Cheongna Hill was created. You can also see the second generation of Daegu's first apple tree. It is the descendant of the last remaining apple tree among the 72 apple trees that missionary Johnson brought from the United States when Dongsan Medical Center opened in 1899, and apples, which were once a specialty of Daegu, were cultivated there since then. It was designated as Daegu Metropolitan City's first protected tree in 2000, but died in 2018. A third-generation tree is currently growing healthily right next to it. The brick houses, which appear similar but each boast their own unique characteristics, are a modern cultural heritage that was built over 100 years ago.
