About
About
It is the highest mountain in South Korea (1,947m above sea level) located on Jeju Island and the highest national park in South Korea. The entire national park is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also an active volcano in the sea. The name means to pull the Milky Way (or high sky), meaning that it is a mountain high enough to hold the Milky Way. There is a lake called Baeknokdam in the crater at the top. Baeknokdam means a pond where white deer drink water, but if you go in the summer, there is often no water at the top. As mentioned above, if you choose a day after a heavy rain or a typhoon, you can see a sight filled with water. There are seven trails: Eorimok, Yeongsil, Seongpanak, Gwaneumsa, Donnaeko, Eoseungsaengak, and Seokguram. Of these, Eorimok, Yeongsil, and Seokguram are separate courses and beginner courses that can be climbed in a short time, and the upper Seoreum is another course that passes through the south wall of Hallasan, and there are Eorimok, Yeongsil, and Donnaeko courses. Therefore, the only courses that can currently reach the summit of Mt. Halla are the Seongpanak and Gwaneumsa courses. The easiest course to climb to the summit is to climb to Seongpanak (9.6 km) and descend to Gwaneumsa (8.7 km). The Seongpanak course is the longest but relatively flat, while the Gwaneumsa course is the most rugged of all the trails on Mt. Halla.
