About

About
It is a temple located halfway up Geumjeong Mountain in Cheongnyong-dong, Geumjeong-gu, Busan. It is an ancient temple representing the Busan region and is one of the three major temples in Yeongnam, along with Haeinsa Temple and Tongdosa Temple. The name of Beomeosa Station on Busan Metro Line 1 was also taken from here. There are two theories about its founding, but the most influential theory is that it was founded by Monk Uisang in 678 (the 18th year of King Munmu's reign) according to the Samguk Yusa. It is said that golden fish came down from the sky and played in the well, so they named it Geumjeongsan Mountain, built a temple there, and established Beomeosa Temple. Currently, there are local cultural assets such as Daeungjeon, which is designated as Treasure No. 434, as well as the three-story stone pagoda (Treasure No. 250), dangganjiju, Iljumun, stone lanterns, and the east and west three-story stone pagodas.
