Seongsimdang was founded by the couple Im Gil-sun and Han Sun-deok, who were from Hamju, South Hamgyong Province.
In 1950, during the Korean War, during the evacuation of Heungnam Port, they miraculously boarded the Meredith Victory, which carried the last refugees, and stayed on Geojedo Island for a while before settling in Jinhae.
After that, while traveling by train to Seoul, they ended up staying in Daejeon due to a train breakdown. They started a steamed bun shop in front of Daejeon Station with two bags of flour donated by Daeheung-dong Church, and today, Seongsimdang is now.
The tent shop in front of Daejeon Station, Seongsimdang, grew bigger and moved to Eunhaeng-dong.
Im Yeong-jin, who was born in Jinhae, has now grown up and become the second president of Seongsimdang. The new president, Mr. Im Yeong-jin, wanted to make a new bread. He created a three-layer fried soboro that allows you to enjoy the sweet taste of red bean buns, the rich taste of soboro, and the crispy texture of donuts all at once. Fried Soboro is so popular that over 80 million pieces have been sold to date.
