Budae-jjigae is a stew made by boiling ham and sausage from a U.S. military base in the 1960s with kimchi, tofu, and bean sprouts suited to the tastes of Koreans. Budae Jjigae originated in the Uijeongbu area of ​​Gyeonggi-do, where a U.S. military base was located in the 1960s. Budae Jjigae, which was created in a time of poverty after the Korean War, has now become one of the popular menu items enjoyed by Koreans. After the Korean War, when everything was in poverty, near US military bases, the United States returned home for its soldiers. I was able to get food sent from . Ham and sausage, also known as ‘Budae-gogi’, were one of them, and in the beginning, they were made using leftovers from US soldiers, so they were called ‘Budae-jjigae’. Grandmother Heo Ki-sook, who has run a food stall in the Uijeongbu area of ​​Gyeonggi-do since 1960, introduced Budae Jjigae using sausages, ham, and bacon from a nearby U.S. military base. In 1968, the business name was registered under the name ‘Odeng Restaurant’ and it became famous as the original budae stew restaurant in the Uijeongbu area. As ‘Odeng Restaurant’ became famous as a representative budae-jjigae restaurant, other budae-jjigae stores opened nearby, forming ‘Uijeongbu budae-jjigae street’ near Uijeongbu Jungang Station.
