Gyeongju

It was the capital of Silla for 992 years from the founding of Silla in 57 BC to the fall of Silla in 935 AD, and the name was changed to the current name, Gyeongju, in 935 AD when Silla fell. Many cultural assets from the Silla period, such as temples, relics, and stone pagodas, as well as noble villages from the Joseon period, such as Gyeongju Yangdong Village, are preserved. Five Gyeongju Historic Sites, including Bulguksa Temple, Seokguram Grotto, Namsan, Wolseong, Daereungwon, Hwangnyongsa Temple Site, and Sanseong Fortress, and Gyeongju Yangdong Village are designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
