100 Year Restaurant Tour
Gyeonggi-do
Gyeonggi-do, surrounding Seoul, has historically been a major transportation hub. Many of its long-standing restaurants, known as "Nopo," began in busy marketplaces to feed travelers and merchants. Anil-ok : Started by the first generation at the Anseong Marketplace, it is officially the oldest restaurant in Gyeonggi-do. It has been passed down through four generations. The broth is famous for its deep, clean taste, achieved by simmering beef bones for long hours without any artificial additives. It carries the pride of the "Anseong-machum" (custom-made/perfect fit) spirit. Donghae-jang : Founded by a Chinese immigrant (Hwagyo) from the Shandong region, this restaurant has maintained authentic flavors for nearly a century in Pyeongtaek. It is widely considered a "pilgrimage site" for Chinese food lovers. Their Uni-jjajang is particularly famous for its rich, smoky flavor and finely chopped ingredients that melt in your mouth.
