Buncheong, a thousand-year-old art reborn
The 29th Gimhae Buncheong Ceramic Festival
The Gimhae Buncheong Ceramics Festival is held as a Buncheong ceramics festival, which is evaluated as the most Korean beauty prototype in the history of Korean ceramics, unlike the blue and white porcelain of Icheon, Gyeonggi-do or the celadon of Gangjin, Jeollanam-do.
The Buncheong ceramics of the Gimhae region, which began to develop in the vein of the Gaya period about 2,000 years ago, became established as the home of daily ceramics from the Joseon period, but gradually lost its luster after the Imjin War. It was only about 40 years ago that it was reintroduced in the Gimhae region, and as potters and scholars from all over the country began to gather one by one to shed new light on the 2,000-year history of Gaya pottery, it has developed into the largest Buncheong ceramics village in Korea today.
