Igidae Park

Overview

Igidae Urban Nature Park is a geological park famous for its spectacular 4.7km coastal trail that stretches from Dongsaengmal to Oryukdo Sunrise Park. The park features volcanic rock formations created about 80 million years ago, dramatic sea cliffs, and sea caves. It is a part of the Busan National Geopark and offers one of the best panoramic views of the Gwangandaegyo Bridge, Marine City, and Haeundae Beach.

History

The name "Igidae" (literally "Two Gisaeng Terrace") originates from a legend during the Japanese invasion (Imjin War). It is said that two gisaeng (female entertainers) sacrificed their lives by leaping into the sea while holding a drunken Japanese general. The area was restricted for military use until 1993, which helped preserve its pristine natural environment. Today, it serves as a beloved ecological park and a segment of the famous 'Galmaetgil' and 'Haeparang' trails.

• **Dongsaengmal Observatory**: The starting point of the trail, offering an iconic view of the Gwangandaegyo Bridge and the Haeundae skyline.

• **Nongbawi Rock**: A uniquely stacked rock formation that looks like a traditional Korean cabinet (nong), legendary for its spiritual energy.

• **Sea Caves and Potholes**: Natural geological wonders scattered along the shore, formed by thousands of years of wave erosion.

• **Suspension Bridges**: Small, thrilling bridges connecting the rocky cliffs that allow visitors to walk directly over the surging waves.

Things to do

• **Coastal Trekking**: Hike the full 4.7km trail to Oryukdo Sunrise Park (approx. 2 to 2.5 hours). The path involves some stairs but is well-maintained with wooden decks.

• **Fishing**: The flat rocky terraces near the water are popular spots for local anglers, known for their clear water and abundant fish.

• **Oryukdo Skywalk**: After finishing the hike, visit the U-shaped glass walkway at the southern end for a thrilling view of the waves beneath your feet.

• **Photography**: The trail is a favorite spot for photographers, especially during sunset when the city lights of Haeundae begin to sparkle across the water.
