Overview

Huinnyeoul Culture Village is a picturesque coastal village built on the steep cliffs of Yeongdo Island, showcasing a dramatic contrast between tightly packed pastel houses and the vast South Sea. The name "Huinnyeoul" comes from the stream water that once cascaded down Mt. Bongnae, resembling white snow. Today, it stands as a major cultural landmark where narrow, maze-like alleyways, vibrant murals, local artisan studios, and panoramic ocean vistas combine to offer a poetic travel experience.

History

The history of the village dates back to the Korean War, when refugees flocked to Busan and built makeshift homes along the rugged, rocky cliffs of Yeongdo. It remained a secluded, impoverished residential area for decades. However, in December 2011, the local government launched an urban regeneration project, renovating deserted houses into artistic residences and galleries. By blending its poignant historical roots with modern artistic expressions, the village transformed into a beloved filming location for renowned Korean movies like "The Attorney" and "Nameless Gangster."

• Huinnyeoul Coastal Tunnel: A unique pedestrian tunnel excavated at the end of the lower sea wall path, widely famous for its silhouette photo zone framing the open sea.

• Jeoryeong Coastal Trail: A scenic walking path stretching directly below the village along the rocky shoreline, offering a close-up view of the crashing ocean waves.

• The Cinematic Alleyways: Quirky, narrow stairs and pathways lined with colorful wall art, mosaics, and nostalgic locations used in famous cinematic works.

• Jeongbang Waves & Ship View: An observation viewpoint from the village edge where rows of cargo vessels anchored in the outer harbor (called Myobakji) create a uniquely iconic Busan landscape.
