Overview

Lee Jung-seop's Residence is a humble thatched-roof house where the famous Korean painter Lee Jung-seop lived with his wife and two sons for about a year during the Korean War (1951). Despite the extreme poverty and the tiny size of their room (approx. 4.6 square meters), this period is remembered as the happiest time in the artist's life and inspired many of his warm, family-oriented works.

History

The house belongs to a local resident who kindly shared a small room with the artist's family during their refuge in Seogwipo. Lee Jung-seop created masterpieces like "The Ox" and "Children with Fish" while staying here. The residence was restored in 1997 to honor his artistic spirit, and the original owner's descendants still maintain the main house today, preserving the site's authenticity.
