Overview

Siheung Oido Museum is a specialized historical museum built to preserve and showcase the Oido shell mounds (Historic Site No. 441), the largest of their kind on the West Coast. The museum offers a unique blend of archaeological heritage and modern architectural beauty. Visitors can explore the daily lives of Neolithic people who lived by the sea thousands of years ago, all while enjoying panoramic views of the Yellow Sea through the building's stunning glass facade.

History

Oido has long been recognized as a significant archaeological site since the discovery of various prehistoric artifacts and shell mounds. The museum officially opened in July 2019 to provide a systematic way to manage these findings and offer a cultural space for the community. In 2022, the Oido Prehistoric Relics Park nearby was integrated with the museum experience to create a comprehensive "Prehistoric Journey" cultural zone that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors annually.
