Overview

Haewoojae, also known as "Mr. Toilet House," is the world's only museum shaped like a toilet bowl. The name "Haewoojae" means "a house to relieve one's concerns," inspired by the traditional Buddhist name for a restroom. It serves as a comprehensive cultural space dedicated to improving global sanitation and sharing the history of toilet culture in a fun, accessible way for both children and adults.

History

The building was originally the private residence of the late Sim Jae-duck, the former Mayor of Suwon and founding chairman of the World Toilet Association (WTA). Known as "Mr. Toilet" for his passion for sanitation, he demolished his 30-year-old home to build this unique structure in 2007. After his passing, the house was donated to Suwon City and reopened as a museum in 2010. It has since become a landmark, promoting the "Suwon Toilet Revolution" to the world.
