100 Year Restaurant Tour
Daegu
Many of Daegu’s historic restaurants center around Taro-gukbap (spicy beef and leek soup). This dish originated during the Korean War when refugees gathered in Daegu. These establishments are more than just eateries; they are living museums of the city’s wartime resilience. Gukil Taro Gukbap (est. 1946): Perhaps the most famous, serving spicy beef soup with rice. It has been visited by presidents and celebrities and is considered a "must-visit" landmark. Jin-golmok Sikdang: Located in a historic alley (Jin-golmok), this restaurant is famous for its Yug-gae-jang (spicy beef soup with scallions). The building itself is an old traditional house, preserving the atmosphere of early 20th-century Daegu. Miseong Bok-bulgogi is a legendary restaurant in Daegu, famous for inventing the unique dish Bok-bulgogi (spicy stir-fried pufferfish). It is officially recognized as one of the representatives of the "10 Flavors of Daegu."
