Cheongju is the capital and largest city of North Chungcheong Province in central South Korea. It is a significant inland city, serving as the political, economic, and educational center of the province. Cheongju is historically famous as the birthplace of the Jikji (Baegunhwasang Chorok Buljo Jikji Simche Yojol), the world's oldest existing book printed with movable metal type, published in 1377.
